Blog to Another Baby

Same song, second verse. My second pregnancy resulted in a boy. I still need somewhere to write, and this blog is for thoughts, feelings, and observations regarding DS2.

Thud

Oops! DS2 rolled off the couch this afternoon. I occasionally leave him on the couch, nestled near the back cushion, when he falls asleep in my arms. Sometimes I leave him on the pillow that was on my lap, and snuggle that up against the back. Today I didn't adjust him to be near the back, and I guess he must have been partially on his side to start with. It's a good thing that we have 1/2 inch foam letters carpeting the floor (which is carpeted) for a little extra cushioning. I was in the dining room, on the computer, and heard a muffled thud then a cry. I knew exactly what had happened and went to pick up DS2. He immediately quieted and went right back to sleep within seconds.

So far so good

The visit from grandparents is going pretty well. Today is their last full day here. FIL has helped DH with a few handyman fixes around the house. Today they got to the one that I actually wanted done the most, so the rest are icing on the cake. FIL picks up things to read when bored, and today I noticed him reading So That's What They're For. I was amused.

Grandparents Here

DH's parents arrived this afternoon. DS2 turned 1 month old this weekend. His grandparents met him for the first time today. They will be in town all week. I expect a pleasant visit. (When they visited after DS1 was born it was very stressful, but circumstances are quite different this time. Primarily DS2 has been home almost a month, vs 1 day for DS1, plus I'm not a 1st time mom anymore.)

Bare Bottom

DS2 has quite a bad diaper rash, so today he went bare-bottomed most of the day. I had a waterproof lap pad on my lap, then put a prefold cloth diaper under him, and another one over him loosely. His bottom looks better this evening than it did this morning, so I will probably do the same thing tomorrow. It makes for a lot of wet diapers, since I can feel them immediately, but something needs to be done to help his skin heal. We are using A+D zinc oxide cream also. His BMs have gone from normal breastmilk curdy to almost completely liquid yesterday. They are starting to have a little bit of solid in them again. He is probably fighting a virus, since DH and DS1 both have bugs right now, and DS2 has had congestion at night and a little bit of snot in the morning for the past few days.

Fear of Spoiling - explains the history of this myth and gives reasons that comforting a child quickly is a good thing

3 weeks - first cold?

DS2 turned 3 weeks old yesterday. I think he might have his first cold already. DS1 has a cold and pink eye, and DS2 has been sounding stuffy for a couple of days. This morning I tried to suction out DS2's nose and didn't get anything, but a few minutes later he sneezed out some icky snot.
